A New Normal

Who could have guessed how quickly things could change? The Coronavirus has caused all of us to stop business as normal and find new ways to do things. With Governor DeSantis’ orders to first reduce seating then not allow it at all in our restaurants forced our businesses to think outside of the box. The restaurants have done everything they can to create a safe environment for you the customer as well as their staff. The same is true for our merchants.

Many of our restaurants offer to go orders, curbside pickup, and free delivery options for you. Merchants are offering and promoting their products on their websites and social media. For your convenience, the City has designated five-minute curbside pickup spaces throughout the downtown. Just pull into the designated spot, let your restaurant or merchant know you’re there and it will be delivered to your car.

You can help your favorite downtown business buy following them on social media, buy their products, and like and share their posts. Many of our business have changed their hours and offerings to make it easy. You can find their information on their website or social media. You can also visit www.MainStreetDeLand.org and follow the Shop, Dine, Be Entertained link. On our website you will also find an interactive map to help you find a curbside space, links to official sources regarding the virus and more. Shopping this way keeps you away for the larger big box crowds.

At MainStreet DeLand, we have tried to make the fast-changing information quickly available to our downtown businesses. Even more than the information we can provide and things we can do on our end, we need you to support a small local business whenever you can by choosing to shop small.

You’ve probably noticed I haven’t talked about events this month. When we get past this, you can bet there will be a party! Until then, buy from your favorite small businesses, wash your hands and keep a safe distance.

Looking forward to seeing you downtown.
