Planning Ahead

The first month of the year has come and gone.  As we look forward to the coming year, it’s time to welcome new members to our Board of Directors.  New to our Board in 2021 are: Hari Pulapaka, Nika Hosseini, Ileana Castro, Sandy Bobo and Johana Angel.  Board Members signing on for a new 3-year term are:  Geof Felton, Melisa Reed, Susie Macon, Bill Jennings, Richard Prescott.

We will meet in early February to review our work plan that will include projects in each of the 4 Points of the Main Street Approach that has been key to our success, Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Vitality.  Promotion is the part everybody sees, but there is a lot more to a successful downtown besides events.

Speaking of events, we are working to bring some of our smaller events back in the next few months.  We’ve had to change some dates and modify our logistics, nevertheless we are working to create a safe environment for you to enjoy events in Downtown DeLand.

Here what we have in the works.    We are planning for Bourbon & Blues, The Florida Garden & Wildflower Festival, and The DeLand Craft Beer Festival.  If things go according to plan the fun will start to return in March and April.  Unfortunately for us, the annual Bike Rally is just too big and would require too many resources from us at this time. 

We had a very low key celebration of 35 years for Main Street here in DeLand in 2020.  There are so many folks to thank including the “Magnificent 7” who were instrumental in bringing Main Street to DeLand.  There have been 29 different Presidents and seemingly countless Board members and volunteers.  No wonder DeLand is such an amazing place.
