DESCRIPTION
The award-winning MainStreet DeLand Association is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as its Assistant Director with a strong focus on communications and organizational development. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with staff and volunteers to fulfill our mission to support and enhance the continuing economic development of downtown DeLand. This position works directly with the Executive Director to operate in a highly creative environment, utilizing administrative and project management skills which are key in the Main Street Four-Point Approach and the MainStreet DeLand mission and purpose. This is a full-time, in-office and in-field senior-level position reporting directly to the Executive Director. The Assistant Director is the second in command of the agency, with the anticipation of fulfilling the Executive Director position in any event which would prevent the Executive Director from fulfilling standard duties and responsibilities.
Working in close partnership with the Executive Director, Board, staff, and volunteers, this individual will be a key driver of organizational growth, responsible for building MainStreet DeLand’s capacity to serve the Downtown DeLand community. The Assistant Director will work in tandem with the Executive Director on all aspects of the organization's management. This position will directly oversee the current team and, in consultation with organizational leadership, be responsible for its strategic growth and expansion.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Assistant Director must possess strong communication skills, must be dependable, self-directed, and have the ability to work effectively as a team leader and as a member of a team. This person must be entrepreneurial, energetic, and flexible, with the ability to cultivate community relationships, and employ strong leadership skills in the support of a mature, award-winning, and transitioning non-profit organization. They must have a deep understanding of and aligned values with MainStreet DeLand Association and be willing to participate in, and lead, staff and continuing education meetings. Additionally, they must have experience in the following:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements
A collaborative leadership style with proven ability to work effectively with executive leadership, boards of directors, and committees to co-develop and execute strategy
A proactive, hands-on work style with the versatility to manage diverse responsibilities and a willingness to contribute to organizational needs that fall outside of this description's primary scope
Three (3) years working experience in communications, nonprofits, marketing, or business field
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational, management, and communication skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to serve as a compelling spokesperson for the organization
Innovative problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to give and receive feedback and evaluate skills in others
Experience file sharing and co-working via Google Drive and other applications
Knowledge in Social Media, Salesforce, Squarespace, Web Design, Google Ads, Graphic Design
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends for events and meetings
A passion for historic preservation, community development, and the Main Street mission
RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop and implement a comprehensive annual marketing and promotions plan designed to expand the reach and impact of Downtown DeLand, driving organizational growth and community engagement
Oversee the execution of the organization's marketing efforts, including digital marketing, public relations, advertising, and collateral material production
Oversee the staff responsible for promoting and managing the Association’s signature events, with the goal of increasing attendance, community engagement, and revenue as a function of strategic growth
Collaborate with downtown businesses to develop cooperative marketing opportunities that align with the strategic plan
Analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and provide regular reports and insights to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
In partnership with the Executive Director, relevant committees, and community partners, lead the organization’s capacity building efforts through strategic member and donor development
With the Executive Director and the Organization Committee, design and execute a strategic capacity building plan focused on the cultivation, recruitment, and retention of members and donors to ensure sustainable organizational growth
Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with current and prospective individual and corporate donors
Manage the annual membership campaign, including renewals and recruitment of new members
Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns
Work with the Executive Director to identify and pursue grant opportunities
Directly supervise and mentor designated staff, fostering their professional development to increase the overall capacity of the team
In consultation with the Executive Director and the Organization Committee, develop and implement a strategy for staff growth and expansion to ensure the team structure supports the organization's long-term goals
Act on behalf of the Executive Director in their absence, representing the organization at meetings and community events
Collaborate closely with all four-point committees to achieve strategic goals, requiring attendance at all monthly meetings to provide strategic input
Work with the Executive Director on the development and management of the organization's annual budget, aligning it with growth objectives
Continuing education including online and in-person quarterly workshops and annual conferences presented by Florida Main Street, Orlando Main Streets, and Main Street America
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
WORK ENVIRONMENT / ADA
While performing duties of this job, the candidate must have the ability to sit at a desk and view a screen for extended periods of time, travel the sidewalks and stairs of the historic downtown district during the work day or during special events, and lift 15 to 45 pounds. Normal to moderate noise levels for work environment. 20/20 vision or corrected to 20/20.
