Downtown DeLand is not just for Window Shopping
Where’s Waldo? During the whole month of July, we get to “Find Waldo” in Downtown! Pick up your Passport at the Muse Book store or at www.MainStreetDeLand.org and begin your search. Enter your passport for prizes to be awarded on July 31st.
The mural honoring DeLand’s Rufus Pinkney will soon be complete. It’s not too late for you to contribute to it. You can find all the information you need to make your donation at www.MainStreetDeLand.org.
It’s finally hot enough and rainy enough to start thinking about our annual “Tropical Nights” celebration! That’s right, it’s time for the ladies to start decorating those hats and for the kids to practice their hoola hoop skills. Join us Downtown on W. Indiana Ave. of Friday, July 20th for a great night of fun and enjoy the hospitality of our Downtown Merchants and dining at our Downtown eateries.
Downtown DeLand is not just for window shopping. Remember to buy from local merchants first! Your dollar goes a long way here. According to The350Project.net, “for every $100 spent in locally owned Independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home.” All our businesses are air conditioned. Stop in and be cool!
If you’re a business and looking to expand into Downtown DeLand or if you want to film a movie or commercial in DeLand, we can help. You can find a link in the business section on www.MainStreetDeLand.org.
Our new business links include a variety of resources to help make it easy for you to bring your business to town. We are still adding content to our new website, but we are pleased with our progress. There’s always been a lot going on at MainStreet DeLand. This new website will help us better achieve our mission.
I’m honored to be celebrating my fifth year with MainStreet DeLand this month. What a fun and rewarding five years it has been. DeLand is a great community filled with people who are willing to do their part to make it a great community. On so many levels, across the state and the nation, DeLand and your MainStreet DeLand program are respected and an example for many other communities.
See you Downtown!
