We Won!

MainStreet Wins 2017 America’s Main Street contest!  Out of 242 entries from all across the country your votes put us in the top 10.  Then the judges took over and selected DeLand.  Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote and more than that, thanks to everyone for  making downtown DeLand so deserving of the award.

Independent We Stand is a supporter of small business and shopping local and a great supporter of downtowns organized the contest.  More at IndependentWeStand.org. Stihl power tools is the major sponsor for the contest.  As the contest winner MainStreet DeLand will win $25,000 in cash and other prizes.

In other news! MainStreet DeLand congratulates the new graduates of Stetson University and DeLand High! We wish you a prosperous future and hope that you’ll find your way back to DeLand to pursue your careers and raise your families.  We continue to work hard to maintain and improve our vibrant downtown just as the City works to bring in good paying jobs and industry like you see coming to the airport industrial park.

As we enter the summer season, remember to buy local.  Shopping local benefits the whole community.  It not only supports the downtown businesses that are the basis for our vibrant downtown, but a large part of the dollars spent here stay here in the community.

Coming up in June we have Wine, Women, and Chocolate on the 14th. The theme for June is patriotic in celebration of Flag Day so the Downtown Divas should sport their Red, White and Blue.  Come downtown on the 17th and stroll down memory lane listening to your favorite tunes of yesteryear and check out the classic cars at the DeLand Cruise-In on East Indiana.  Also join us for Tech DeLand and our Build Your Business Group meetings.

Thanks to all who joined us for Ice Cream last month.  It was another sell out!  Watch for information about our September Ice Cream Walk.  Starting July 1st we’ll all be asking “Where’s Waldo?”!  You’ll be able to download you passport at www.MainStreetDeLand.org or pick one up at the Muse Book Store and other participating merchants. And save the date for Tropical Nights on July 21st.

Take some time this summer to explore Downtown DeLand’s murals and sculptures, its air conditioned shops and restaurants, an ice cream or yogurt, and it’s great selection of cold beers.

We’ll be looking for you!
