Welcome Back Students, Faculty and Staff!
On behalf of the downtown merchants we at MainStreet DeLand are happy to welcome back the students, faculty, and staff of Stetson University. Many of our businesses had a very good summer but we like it when you’re here. Stetson brings so much to our community. Arts and culture events, student volunteers & civic involvement, and football.
We were saddened by the death of Nick Blakely and our prayers go out to his family and friends. When a tragic death or a hurricane are involved, you have to stop and reflect on those things that are important. One of the things that is important in DeLand is its sense of community.
Anyone who knows DeLand knows of the way the community comes together. Whether it is due to a loss or a celebration, people in DeLand recognize that community is important. We are happy to be a part of the community.
Our mission “to support and enhance the continuing economic development of downtown DeLand while protecting and promoting its historic heritage” extends into the area of creating a sense of place. Downtown DeLand has become the place where the community can come together for a parade or an event, to meet friends or conduct business.
You can tell when people have a love for their community. They get involved in many different ways. They volunteer at events or with the different organizations in DeLand, they support their local businesses, and they help their neighbors.
We are heading into our busy season. In September, in addition to our regular monthly events, it is time for the DeLand Craft Show on the 23rd and 24th. We are also planning to end the month with an Ice Cream walk. Our friends at the Sweet Spot will once again bring to life flavors creations from our merchants. It’s always a great time and always a sell-out.
Stay up to date on everything happening downtown by going to our calendar at www.MainStreetDeLand.org or “Like” us on Facebook. There’s always something going on in Downtown DeLand!
See you downtown soon,
