In 2021 a downtown master plan was prepared with a focus on redevelopment and infrastructure upgrades in the core area. Key plan recommendations include: • Restructuring the downtown area to promote robust mixed-use redevelopment with an affordable housing component • Promoting existing historic buildings for redevelopment • Designing a green infrastructure and trail network linking the City’s various public assets. • Enhancing the City’s railroad heritage with new features such as a bridge over highway 301, a rail museum and parks for viewing trains. • Pursuing brownfield redevelopment on the sites adjacent to the CSX rail line to spur economic development. • Organizing partners, grants, and funding options to enable the master plan. Through this session, we would like to share our experiences, successes and lessons learnt in planning and designing orientated towards implementation using innovative and practical approaches and with limited resources.
