The Athens Theatre Company Presents Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

The Athens Theatre Company Presents Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Hugh Wheeler

“Revenge is a dish best served… in a meat pie.”

Prepare for a dark journey through the sinister streets of Victorian London with Sweeney Todd. Follow the vengeful barber as he seeks justice, aided by the cunning Mrs. Lovett and her rather… unique meat-pie business. Stephen Sondheim’s masterpiece weaves a twisted tale of love, revenge, and morality, brought to life by hauntingly beautiful music. Equal parts chilling and captivating, Sweeney Todd will leave you spellbound—and maybe a bit wary of your next shave…

Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI)

Rated R: Run time: 2 hours and 45 minutes with a 15-minute intermission

The Athens Theatre Company Presents Beautiful Loser | The Bob Seger Tribute

Turn the Page: A Night of Bob Seger’s Greatest Hits

On WednesdayJuly 23, the Athens Theatre brings the music of Bob Seger back to the stage with two performances of Beautiful Loser: The Bob Seger Tribute—at 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

With its gritty vocals, strong storytelling, and working-class spirit, Seger’s music defined a generation of American rock. This tribute captures the sound and soul of that era, led by vocalist Ken Hurley, whose vocal resemblance to Seger is matched by a commanding presence and deep respect for the material.

Supported by a full band of professional musicians, Beautiful Loser covers decades of Seger’s songwriting—from the early energy of “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” to the reflective power of “Night Moves,” “Still the Same,” and “Against the Wind.” The setlist also includes classics like “Hollywood Nights,” “Mainstreet,” and “Old Time Rock and Roll,” performed with accuracy, energy, and a clear affection for the music.

Rather than imitate or embellish, the band focuses on recreating the spirit and sound that made these songs unforgettable. Every arrangement is built to highlight what Seger did best: straightforward, emotionally honest rock with depth and drive.

Seger’s career began in the bars and high school gyms of Michigan and grew into sold-out stadium tours and best-selling albums. His voice and songwriting reflected a changing America—restless, resilient, and still looking for the next road forward. Beautiful Loser offers a chance to hear that music live once again.

Tickets for Beautiful Loser: The Bob Seger Tribute are available by clicking the link below or by calling the box office at 386-736-1500.
